چکیده

ABSTRACT We report on the discovery and characterization of three planets orbiting F8 star HD 28109, which sits comfortably in ${TESS}$’s continuous viewing zone. The two outer have periods $\rm 56.0067 \pm 0.0003~d$ 84.2597_{-0.0008}^{+0.0010}~d$, implies a period ratio very close to that first-order 3:2 mean motion resonance, exciting transit timing variations (TTVs) up 60\, min$. These were first identified by ${TESS}$, we third planet ${TESS}$photometry with 22.8911 0.0004~d$. confirm planetary nature all candidates using ground-based photometry from Hazelwood, ${ASTEP}$, LCO, including full detection \sim 9\, h$ 28109 c Antarctica. radii are ${\it R}_b=2.199_{-0.10}^{+0.098} ~{\rm R}_{\oplus }$, R}_c=4.23\pm 0.11~ {\rm R}_d=3.25\pm 0.11 }$; characterize their masses TTVs precise radial velocities ESPRESSO HARPS, find them be M}_b=18.5_{-7.6}^{+9.1}~M_{\oplus M}_c=7.9_{-3.0}^{+4.2}~{\rm M}_{\oplus M}_d=5.7_{-2.1}^{+2.7}~{\rm making b dense, massive while d both underdense. also demonstrate ripe for atmospheric transmission spectroscopy, especially given position CVZ James Webb Space Telescope. data obtained date consistent resonant (librating) non-resonant (circulating) solutions; additional observations will show whether pair is actually locked resonance or just near-resonant.

Kepler-9: a system of multiple planets transiting a Sun-like star, confirmed by timing variations.

The Kepler spacecraft is monitoring more than 150,000 stars for evidence of planets transiting those stars. We report the detection of two Saturn-size planets that transit the same Sun-like star, based on 7 months of Kepler observations. Their 19.2- and 38.9-day periods are presently increasing and decreasing at respective average rates of 4 and 39 minutes per orbit; in addition, the transit ti...

A Technique for Detecting Starlight Scattered from Transiting Extrasolar Planets with Application to Hd 209458b

We present a new technique for detecting scattered starlight from transiting, close-orbiting extrasolar giant planets (CEGPs) that has the virtues of simplicity, robustness, linearity, and modelindependence. Given a series of stellar spectra obtained over various phases of the planetary orbit, the goal is to measure the strength of the component scattered by the planet relative to the component...

A cloaking device for transiting planets

The transit method is presently the most successful planet discovery and characterization tool at our disposal. Other advanced civilizations would surely be aware of this technique and appreciate that their home planet’s existence and habitability is essentially broadcast to all stars lying along their ecliptic plane. We suggest that advanced civilizations could cloak their presence, or deliber...

Falling Transiting Extrasolar Giant Planets

We revisit the tidal stability of extrasolar systems harboring a transiting planet and demonstrate that, independently of any tidal model, none but one (HAT-P-2b) of these planets has a tidal equilibrium state, which implies ultimately a collision of these objects with their host star. Consequently, conventional circularization and synchronization timescales cannot be defined because the corres...
